Centre Approves Six Infrastructure Projects: A Road To Development
Tumblr media
On March 22, 2023, the Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM Gati Shakti initiative approved six infrastructure projects related to renewable energy, roads, and railways, according to an official statement. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced that the NPG examined and recommended these projects during its 45th session. The six approved projects include one project by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), three by the Ministry of Railways, and two by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India (MoRTH). The MoCI added that these projects will be developed in line with PM GatiShakti Principles, utilizing an integrated and holistic approach.
The MoCI stated that these projects will provide multimodal connectivity, seamless movement of goods and passengers, and increase logistics efficiency across the country. The three railway projects proposed by the Ministry of Railways involve the construction of an elevated railway track for Kanpur Anwarganj – Mandhana, a rail bridge across the river Ganga to connect Vikramshila – Katareah railway station, and the doubling of Ajmer – Chittaurgarh railway line of 178.28 km.
The MoCI said that the first railway project aims to increase line capacity utilization and improve city logistics in the region. The second project is a critical infrastructure project, as it will provide seamless freight flow movement upon completion, and the third project will predominantly serve the industrial and tribal belt in Rajasthan. The region has many religious, tourist, and historic places, including Pushkar, Ajmer, Chittorgarh, and Udaipur.
The MNRE project examined by the NPG involves the Inter-State Transmission System for Renewable Energy Projects in Ladakh, which the government describes as an essential and unique project. The MoCI stated that this project is a significant step towards achieving the Government of India's target of 500 GW capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030.
The PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan was introduced on October 13, 2022, with the aim of creating integrated infrastructure to save logistics expenses. These six approved projects are expected to boost the country's infrastructure and promote the use of renewable energy, which is in line with the government's sustainable development goals.

Important Current Affairs for UPSC 2024 Prelims
Tumblr media
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination is one of the most challenging exams in India, and staying updated with current affairs is crucial for success, especially in the Prelims. With the UPSC 2024 Prelims approaching, aspirants are increasingly focusing on which current affairs topics are likely to be significant. Below is a guide to the most important areas you should concentrate on, with insights from Khan Global Studies.
1. Geopolitical Developments
International relations play a significant role in the UPSC Prelims, and 2023 has been a year of major geopolitical shifts. The evolving dynamics between major powers like the United States, China, and Russia, along with India's role in these global developments, are crucial. Key topics include the Russia-Ukraine conflict, its global impact, and India's stance on various international issues. Additionally, India's relations with neighboring countries, its role in multilateral organizations like the United Nations, BRICS, and G20, and participation in global summits are vital areas to focus on.
2. Environmental and Climate Issues
With increasing emphasis on sustainability and climate change, environmental issues have become a staple in the UPSC Prelims. The COP28 conference, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, and India's initiatives toward achieving its climate goals under the Paris Agreement are critical topics. Additionally, understanding the impact of natural disasters, new environmental policies, and biodiversity conservation efforts in India will be beneficial.
3. Economic Developments
The Indian economy has seen significant changes, especially in the post-pandemic recovery phase. Topics like inflation trends, fiscal policies, monetary policy changes by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and government initiatives like 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' are essential for the Prelims. Furthermore, recent developments in digital currency, economic reforms, and trade relations will likely be tested.
4. Social Issues and Government Schemes
Social issues such as healthcare, education, and gender equality continue to be relevant for the UPSC exam. Recent government schemes like PM Gati Shakti, PM-Poshan, and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which are being implemented or modified, should be studied in detail. Additionally, awareness of social justice issues and government responses to them is important.
5. Science and Technology
Advancements in science and technology are always a hot topic in UPSC Prelims. Areas like space exploration, with India's missions by ISRO, developments in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and renewable energy technologies, are all critical. The application of technology in governance, digital initiatives by the Indian government, and cybersecurity issues are also worth focusing on.
Conclusion
Preparing for the UPSC 2024 Prelims requires a comprehensive understanding of current affairs. While it is impossible to predict every question, focusing on the areas mentioned above will give you a strong foundation. Khan Global Studies provides tailored resources that help aspirants navigate these complex topics with ease, offering in-depth analysis and insights that go beyond mere facts, helping you build a critical perspective essential for the exam.

Why gati shaki project is very important for India.
Tumblr media
PM Gati Shakti is a national master plan aimed at multi-modal connectivity in India. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this ambitious scheme brings together 16 Ministries, including Railways and Roadways, for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects. Here are the key points about PM Gati Shakti:
Vision and Objectives :
- **Comprehensive Connectivity**: PM Gati Shakti incorporates existing and planned initiatives from various Ministries and State Governments. It covers schemes like **Bharatmala**, **Sagarmala**, inland waterways, dry/land ports, **UDAN**, and more.
- **Economic Zones**: The plan aims to improve connectivity for economic zones such as textile clusters, pharmaceutical clusters, defence corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, fishing clusters, and agri zones.
- **Leveraging Technology**: PM Gati Shakti extensively uses spatial planning tools with **ISRO imagery** developed by **BiSAG-N** (Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics).
History and Challenges Overcome:
- Traditionally, lack of coordination between different departments led to inefficiencies. For instance, roads were often dug up again for laying underground cables or gas pipelines. PM Gati Shakti addresses this by promoting holistic planning.
- Efforts have been made to streamline approval processes and reduce regulatory hurdles.
Six Pillars of PM Gati Shakti:
- **Comprehensiveness**: All existing and planned initiatives are centralized on one portal, allowing better visibility and data sharing.
- **Prioritization**: Departments can prioritize projects through cross-sectoral interactions.
- **Optimization**: The master plan assists ministries in planning by identifying critical gaps.
- **Innovation**: Encourages innovative approaches to infrastructure development.
- **Technology**: Leverages advanced tools for planning and execution.
- **Holistic Governance**: Projects are designed and executed with a common vision, avoiding siloed planning.
PM Gati Shakti aims to propel India into the 21st century by enhancing connectivity, reducing logistics costs, and fostering sustainable development.
